HIGH-RESOLUTION SITE CHARACTERISATION (HRSC)

HRSC is an innovative technology that’s changing the way contaminated sites are assessed and managed. MEMBRANE INTERFACE PROBE (MIP)

Membrane interface probes (MIP) are used for real-time detection and delineation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as halogenated solvents (PCE, TCE) and petroleum (BTEX) compounds in both saturated and unsaturated conditions.

MIP technology provides fast and continuous profiling of soil subsurfaces with real-time data output to incorporate into 2D and 3D visualisations for accurate conceptual site models. MIP delivers benefits such as:

  • Real-time and high-resolution data collection at 65 readings per vertical metre

  • Low detection limits

  • Operates effectively in any matrix — vadose zone or groundwater

  • Advancement rate of 0.3m/minute, with daily production up to 70-80 metres per day

  • Multiple data stream collection during the vertical push — MIP utilises three laboratory grade detectors (PID, FID & XSD) for VOC analysis.

ULTRA-VIOLET OPTICAL SCREENING TOOL (UVOST)

Our UVOST utilises Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) technology (which provides a 3D map of contaminant distribution in the subsurface) to identify and delineate non-dissolved Light Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid (LNAPL) and petroleum, oil and lubricant (POL) contamination in the subsurface.

Benefits of UVOST include real-time data reports, the effective detection of a wide spectrum of petroleum products such as petrol, diesel, jet fuel and waste, hydraulic and crude oil, and zero generation of soil waste. Like the use of our membrane interface probe (MIP), harnessing the power of our UVOST makes for a far more productive day in the field. Further benefits of UVOST include:

  • Data is collected in real time and high resolution at 65 readings per vertical metre

  • “Signature” wavelengths allow identification of a wide spectrum of fuel types

  • Colour-coded logs for the ultimate in qualitative information “at-a-glance”

  • Operates effectively above, through and below the saturated zone

  • Probe advances at ~20 mm/sec without pause

  • Typical daily productivity of 100-150 metres

  • High-resolution data density coupled with near instantaneous response, provides continuous detailed log of product distribution and heterogeneity

HYDRAULIC PROFILING TOOL (HPT)

Hydraulic profiling tools are used to identify preferential contaminant pathways and confining layers with detailed vertical data on soil type and permeability. HPTs measure the pressure required to inject a flow of water into the soil and the electrical conductivity of the formation.

With the data from the HPT log, site investigators can carry out land contamination assessments and identify potential contaminants, permeable zones and seepage flow paths, and the best zones to draw groundwater or set production or monitoring wells. HPT delivers benefits such as:

  • Data is collected in real time and high resolution at 65 readings per vertical metre

  • Simultaneous collection of soil electrical conductivity to determine lithology

  • Hydraulic Conductivity (K) values can be derived from HPT data

  • Calculates water table elevations across a site

  • Advancement rate of 0.3m/minute with daily production up to 50-70m/day

  • Identifies contaminant migration pathways and specific lenses and zones for injection remediation

  • Provides data for accurate well screen intervals.
