Resto-mod of Geoprobe 6620 Environmental drill rig

Do you like large puzzles? This is what a Geoprobe 6620 looks like stripped down to its component parts. Our fitters have recently commenced a complete overhaul and upgrade of “R1” , our Geoprobe track mounted drilling rig. As the reference number suggests this was the first new rig ever purchased by Numac and one of the first specialist environmental drilling rigs in the country. This machine has been sidelined for many years and kept in storage as Geoprobe upgraded models through the 77 & 78 series. The most significant change through the subsequent Geoprobe models was the increase in “stroke” length as designated by the 66, 77, 78 in the model name. The “stroke” on a rig references the available room the driller has with the drill head at full extension. With the early 66 inch models (167cm) it was very difficult to run standard 1.5m augers without running into difficulty, and certainly no room to run saver subs, or water/air swivels. We are making a major modification during the R1 rebuild and have extended that main hydraulic ram and components to match the 77-78 dimensions. There are many other refinements, upgrades and improvements that we will detail over the next couple of months as the work is completed and our Geoprobe R1 is brought back to life better than new. Much to do!
