Epic Sonic Drilling Journey

6500km round trip, 4 states , Geotechnical, environmental and water well projects…. no way home.

The Legion Drilling team has been wrestling with the logistical challenges from border and travel restrictions for most of 2020. Some of our teams have had to endure periods away from home much longer than we normally ask of them.

A number of our Victorian and NSW drillers have been unable to return home between swings, others have had to endure lockdown in NT, SA and QLD as state governments made changes to "hot spot" areas on the fly.

As prime example is Sydney based R20 Sonic crews have been on a 13 week tour which included quarantine, 4 states, 4 projects and a total of 6400km mobilization. Project requirements included 150mm production bores, Environmental monitoring wells, and Vibrating Wire Piezometers for a Geotechnical client. The rig completed projects in Queensland, South Australia, Northern Territory and New south wales.

Fatigue was mitigated throughout he drill program running Monday to Saturday shifts with Sundays as rest days and extended breaks between projects. Utilization of of our fatigue self assessment tools and constant involvement from the safety management team was vital in keeping the whole run incident free.

We are certainly thankful to the commitment of our crews, the efforts of our state managers and diligence of our safety team to navigate through this period incident free.
